As new parents soon learn, babies are expensive. There are baby items that must be purchased even before the baby makes his or her appearance in the world and the need continues once the baby arrives. All those little clothes they outgrow so quickly, the diapers and formula they go through daily, the costs add up. While you want the best quality baby food and formula possible, there are ways to cut costs on many other things that your baby will need. Clothing, nursery furniture, crib bedding sets and lots of other baby gear are all things that can be found in gently used condition at great prices.
Babies grow so fast especially the first year that many times they only wear a piece of clothing once or twice before they outgrow it. When my daughter was expecting a baby a couple of years ago, I bought lots of nice clothing for very little money. Consignment stores are great places to shop for children’s clothing. In addition to regular consignment stores, many communities have once or twice a year consignment sales especially for children’s clothing and products. You can not only find clothing bargains but you can also sell clothing your child outgrows. Another good place for bargains is eBay.
Nursery furniture and other baby gear such as strollers and swings often see so little use that they are still like new when no longer needed. Babies generally stay in a crib for about two years and only use a baby swing for a few months. Again, consignment stores may yield some great buys. If you are fortunate enough to have a friend or family member that has furniture and other baby items they aren’t using, you might even get them at no cost.
Most parents want to make the nursery look pretty for the new baby, but baby bedding can be as costly as bedding for an adult size bed. If discount priced baby bedding is your goal, eBay should be one of the first places you shop. There are some great bargains to be found there in both gently used and new sets. You can even find great prices on custom created baby bedding sets. In addition to eBay, the previously mentioned consignment stores are also worth visiting.
While there are many costs associated with raising a child that you can’t control, you can shop wisely. Gently used baby gear offer great looks at a fraction of the cost of new items.
