Even students with advanced knowledge of the actual material being covered in the exam, their test taking abilities may sometimes work against them and impede their performance. These basic CAHSEE prep tips will help any student perform at the highest level come exam day.

The first key to passing and excelling at any standardized test is to familiarize yourself with the exam layout. If you know what to visually expect in advance, the exam itself can’t catch you off guard. Knowing what each section consists of, be it multiple choice or free writing, will also increase your comfort level with the exam itself and help reduce any test taking anxiety.

Always focus on your weaknesses and then brush up on your strengths. By spending a larger amount of time on your weak spots, you will feel better prepared on exam day when it comes to dealing with the subject matter you may not have excelled at in the past. Even if your knowledge may not have increased dramatically, your familiarization with the specific topics themselves may help improve your chances of doing well on those specific sections of the test.

Most importantly, the greatest test taking tip there is has nothing to do with studying at all. The most effective way to improve your performance on exam day is to physically prepare yourself as well as mentally. Always make sure to get a full nights sleep before exam day. Being well rested not only helps decrease your anxiety levels, ultimately improving performance, it can also help your concentration levels and ability to focus more efficiently. The other key is to eat a balanced breakfast the morning of the exam. While it may seem like a given, eating a proper meal before an exam such as the CAHSEE can also improve your ability to concentrate and perform at your highest standards.
