What Are The Different Styles Of Crystal Door Knobs?

A crystal door knob can take on many different forms, but there are some common themes and styles between them all.  In this post I want to share with you some of the common designs that are available with both new and vintage door knobs so you can get the exact one (or set of them) that fits your home.

When it comes to the knob itself, the two more regular designs are the sphere and the diamond.  The sphere is a perfectly smooth ball that is crystal clear.  These generally work best for interior doors as dummy knobs.  They look great, but can be hard to use because they get very slippery.

The diamond style knobs resemble a cut diamond that you would find in a wedding ring.  These are way more functional than the spherical type because they are easier to grip onto.  The prism that’s created by the shape of the knob will create a beautiful array of light in your home when the light shines directly on to it.  Diamond shaped door knobs are the most common style.

The diamond shape will have a few different styles that are available.  There are hexagonal and octagonal shaped diamonds and some that are rounded on the front, rather than flat and smooth.

When it comes to the base plate, there are many more designs and no set standards.  When the base is round, they are called rosettes, and when they’re rectangular they are referred to as plates.  The key is to find plates that match the theme of your home.  Every style is available from modern to Victorian, so finding the one that fits shouldn’t be too tough.

Crystal door knobs can be a big investment in your home when you have lots of doors to replace them on.  Spend the time to shop around and you’re going to come away with something that not only stands out in your home, it will also compliment the rest of your design.
