Pinoso in the mountains

The Costa Blanca is one of the great tourist destinations of the Mediterranean and it consists of roughly the coastline running from just above Denia in the North to just below Torrevieja in the south. The major tourist attractions in the Costa Blanca include the cities of Benidorm, Alicante, Denia, Javea, Torrevieja, and Gandia. But there are also many small little towns and villages that are dotted throughout the Costa Blanca and the province of Alicante in general which are bypassed by the majority of mass tourism, the packaged holiday industry doesn’t see the profit in the small towns and villages so they are ignored. One of these towns is called Pinoso.

Pinoso is situated to the west of Torrevieja and Alicante. It is roughly 55 km from the centre of Alicante city with the highest point being over 1000 meters above sea level. The town is famous for its marble quarry. The quarry which is located in the municipality is over 10 km² in area. It produces almost 1/4 of the national output of this particular cream limestone marble which is sold throughout the world. Other products of the town include grapes and almonds, and there are also several different types of award-winning wines that are made here.

There are plenty of opportunities for all different types of activities in the Costa Blanca. One of the cities which caters for all different age groups is the city of Benidorm which is located up the coast from Alicante. Attracted to Benidorm is a youthful crowd of partygoers during the summer months, the high season. And during the winter months, the low season, many retirees come down from northern Europe to avoid the wet and cold winters. There is a great blend of bars, restaurants, nightclubs, and other entertainment venues that will suit all tastes. There are also award-winning blue flag beaches to be enjoyed. The theme park on the outskirts of the city is known as Terra Mitica which is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the area.
