Keeping Your Small Coffee Maker Clean
There is simply nothing better than waking up each morning to the smell of freshly brewed coffee. When used correctly, your small coffee machine is capable of producing an outstanding cup of coffee on a consistent basis, though it’s important to keep your machine clean if you expect these kinds of results. It’s a fact that the performance of your machine will deteriorate rapidly if it’s not kept clean, and your coffee will suffer as well. When it comes to brewing coffee one of the most important things is to keep your equipment clean. This includes obvious items like the carafe and not so obvious components such as the water reservoir and filter holder. While keeping your machine clean may seem like a nuisance, the good news is that it’s actually quite simple if you know what you’re doing.
Your goal should be to eliminate the buildup of coffee oils that can degrade the taste of your coffee over time. If you don’t believe that the oily residue on your machine has an effect on your coffee, simply wipe some off with your finger and taste it – yuck! Although these oils are great as they are released from fresh coffee beans, they don’t tend to taste so great when they become old and stale. In order to clean small coffee pots it’s important to gather a few essentials: distilled white vinegar, water and two brushes; one of them small and the other medium. The cleaning solution that you will be using is made by combining 1 part of the vinegar with 2 parts of the water. It’s important to mix a sufficient amount of the solution so that you can run one complete cycle of it through your machine. To do this, simply make enough to fill your carafe to the full line. Dump this in the water reservoir, but before hitting the brew button be sure to use the brushes that you set aside in order to clean the internal components of the machine. The smaller brush should be used to clean the smaller crevices around the brew head while the larger brush can be used for inside of the carafe and other components. Once the solution has passed through your machine and into your carafe, go ahead and dump it. You will then want to run two cycles of clean water through your machine to eliminate any of the residues from the cleaning solution.
That’s all there is to it. Repeat this process once every few weeks and you will be rewarded with great tasting coffee.
