Check Out Wireless Hard Drives
If you’ve been keeping up with the technology news lately, you’ll know that some wireless hard drive brands are much more popular and reliable than others. There are many that won’t even let you get out of the same room with them before they lose connection to your laptop. Some are too good; the neighbors can get a piece of your data if you let them. You want one that’s right in the middle of that: You want a wireless hard drive that will give you the flexibility you need, the data rate you want, and won’t let the curious eyes into your data.
Okay, let’s first talk about some things you might not like about these hard drives. First of all, if you’re used to a hard-wired hard drive, you’re not going to like how fast wireless systems transfer data. Data transfer is done by packeting over the ethernet, which does take some time. While it will be faster than when you connect to the internet, you will still see a significant decline in transfer speed versus your wired hard drive. Certain media hard drive brands are especially bad at this. Data rate is just about fast enough to do what you need it to, but you’ll be waiting quite a while. Get comfy while it’s going on.
So, if you’re looking for good wireless hard drives which brand should you look at? I personally say Iomega. Iomega has been around the data storage world forever (remember the Zip Drive?), and they really know what they’re doing. They do offer the StorCenter as a solid entry-level wireless drive that will work just great from wherever you are in the house. It also comes with a solid amount of capacity. If you’re looking for a drive to use in your home or small office, look no further.
